that Anew U, Inc. announces that it has ceased to accept new residents as of August 1, 2009. As we have collaborated with other colleagues around the country who are also treatment providers it has become clear that our industry is no exception to the difficulties produced for small and large businesses in this economic climate. Our decision has unfortunatelty been echoed by a great many treatment providers in the last several months in our industry.
We are saddened by this situation, but also aware that in the more than three years we were able to provide Renewal Housing services, we did make it possible for many residents to grasp and use the tools of recovery, which would be its own reward if we had received no others.
We will be exploring opportunities to continue to offer workshops and conferences as those occur, and we are most grateful for the opportunity to have worked with so many wonderful and energetic people. It has been a great privilege. Becky and Karen
Becoming U Products, the handmade handbags, jewelry and other items the sale of which goes to support treatment for our residents, can be accessed to your left under Services and Fees.
Renewal Housing, also known as Transitional Housing, which offers a truly wrap-around cafeteria of services focusing on life skills and the particular clinical needs of each individual person is, in our experience, what is needed to ensure truly long term recovery.
We believe that clients often relapse chronically because they do not have their clinical needs met in traditional long term care. We have developed this view based on over 30 years of providing treatment to a dually diagnosed and substance dependent population.
Issues of co-occuring psychiatric disorder, a history of trauma, family issues, and a lack of individual clinical attention to these issues seem to us to be the missing pieces for many people who are unable to maintain clean and sober living for any extended period.
We work with some of the finest treatment providers in the country to provide a wrap-around level of service which includes lovely surroundings, up to three individual counseling sessions per week, a life skills focused supportive curriculum, and a very strong focus on individual clinical need.
We treat addictive disease, in the conviction that the disease expresses itself in different substance and process addictions throughout the lifespan, but the disease of addiction must be addressed through 12 step recovery regardless of its expression.
Residents are encouraged to have their own vehicles, cell phones, and pets when clinically appropriate. Children are also welcome under the correct clinical circumstances.
Staff evaluates individual structure based on individual clinical need and the need for house safety rather than "house rules" . This allows us to provide clinical and behavioral structure while focusing on real individual need.
Whether codependency, food, gambling, relationships, opiates, alcohol, amphetamines or work is the primary expression of the addiction, we believe that the process of recovery must include an understanding of the fact that addiction is one disease process.
We are also interested in issues of chronic pain management, and Karen recently completed the training with Dr. Stephen Grinstead in order to provide the Addiction-Free Pain Management System as one of our treatment tools.
Treatment is clearly gender-specific, addressing the unique needs particularly of women, such as trauma and history of abuse; codependency; and relationship addiction.
Each resident has her or his own room in a two-bedroom apartment or three bedroom house furnished with vintage and antique furniture; a fully equipped kitchen, and the dignity of privacy as well as the important experience of living in community.
Residents with children may have an apartment in which only their family resides.
We use and teach the cognitive-behavioral tools of Contribution Training, developed by Peter Fleming, founder of the Pellin Institute in the United Kingdom and Italy. These brilliant conceptual tools provide a practial and accessible support for the self-awareness which is so critical to spiritual development and the prevention of relapse.
A focus on the support and development of life skills to combat the maturational lag associated with addictive disease is also a strong focus of all clinical evaluation and assistance.
Lengths of stay are from three to eighteen months, based on clinical need.
